Growing up in Nigeria I lived in the city, so I was always around individuals with technology. I also had access to technology in cyber cafés with a lot of the computers where I could buy time to surf the internet. The access to technology helped in the early development of my digital literacy skills. My high school back in Nigeria had a computer lab where we could learn specific applications and also watch others (teachers) work on the computer: all of this exposure made it easy to learn how to navigate the digital world. Although my computer laboratory in high school wasn't well equipped and did "not have enough computers." One limitation to the development of my digital literacy was not having access to a personal laptop or computer, I wasn't allowed to own a computer till I turned 19. I was also limited by living far away from cyber cafés and having to wait until it was computer time before using computers in school.

When I got to college my little exposure to technology made transitioning quickly easy when it came to project and assignment that had to do with technology.

Being digitally literate is essential in today's culture, and is continuously evolving. It enables us to function appropriately and to be more successful in our day to day life, whether at home, in school, and at work it allows us to do a better job. What we do in our life requires digital knowledge. As simple as using the internet or signing up or using social media to communicate or connect with friends or loves once. Most jobs need their employees to be digitally literate. As a student I use the internet to do most of my research, to submit my assignments, I also use the internet to search for jobs to fill applications, etc. I also find myself reading the News or magazines online digitally with my laptop; it makes my life way more comfortable and orderly. Having technology allows me to access articles news, magazines at any location with the availability of internet access.
