Technology is evolving with the help of internet so for my second project I decided to tell my digital narrative journey using a blog as I used a video interview for my first project. I thought about one of the readings from class about “convergence” which is the flow of content across multiple media platforms to attract different audiences. As I said in my previous posts about growing up in Nigeria and the need to succeed despite the challenges of being digitally literate. I decided to ask my close friend (Oketope) who also grew up in Nigeria, but went to a different high school about her digital literacy experience. Unlike me, Oketope went to a federal government girl's college and they developed a program to help young girls overcome digital literacy. Oketope's school and many other federal schools had more of an advantage because they had the funds from the government to buy many computers to teach their students various skills (typing etc), my experience on the other hand, I was thought how to type using an antiquated typewriter.
I remember the first time I had to use Microsoft word for my assignment, I realized my typing skills were odd and while I had to learn, I was slow because I lacked the basic knowledge of typing (due to my lack of a personal computer and little to no practice). I also used powerpoint for school presentations, although I found it difficult to use at first, with time and constant practice, I became familiar with the software. After I switched to a MacBook computer, my class project required that I had to make a video and edit it using iMovies. For this project I watched youtube videos and practiced frequently and was able to learn that software as well. Sometimes for my school project it requires me to use both powerpoint and Video to present to my classmates, also being able to use different platforms/mediums has helped me with my digital literacy journey.
