As explained in the previous post about how fashion has been a remix from the past into modern day trends. Same applies to hairstyles, especially women hairstyles. The hairstyle, tells a lot about a person, it shows the personality of the individual. The hairstyle/haircut can say a lot about a person, and the person's culture, class, status, etc., when an individuals hair is neat and presentable, it aids people’s perception of the particular person. It is easy for one's confidence to be based on his/her hairstyle, for example, an individuals mood can be determined by an hairstyle. A persons hairstyle can affect one's self esteem either negatively or positively, a good hairstyle that receives many compliment would definitely have an impact on an individuals. Hairstyle/haircut can boost your confidence. The famous saying goes “Having bad hair day” can make people feel less confident. In early Africa, a person’s hairstyle can indicate the family history, tribe, and status. Although an individual’s hairstyle cannot determine one's attitude or characters, however, it has a significant representation of the individual. After some researches, I discovered hairstyles that were remixed from past decades. A Good example is a political activist Angela Davis, she was a part of the "Black power movement in 1970", she was also well known for her unique Afro hairstyle, she was known to start the Afro look. The afro look isn’t a new hairstyle, but people portray it that way, many women and celebrity women have adopted the look. One that comes to mind is the popular former Disney actress and musician “Zendaya,” she wore the Afro hairstyle to a red carpet event, remixing/remaking the great Angela Davis look.
Lupita Nyong'o is also well known for her diverse hairstyles that is a representation of the African culture, and she remixes hairstyles from past decades/ history into modern day. Her hairstyles was inspired across African culture Cameroon, Rwanda and even South Africa. It was first known to be a male hairstyle, which signifies the status of an individual, the hairstyle was originally known as a war hairstyle, or/and to show a persons rank among the tribe (royalty). During the “Black Panther” premier and also "The Oscars" Lupita Nyong’o had a unique hairstyle, the contoured structure of the hair was perfectly coiffed similar to the African hairstyle. Picture shown below
The same logic applies to men’s haircut, the recent haircut styles is a remix from the 1950’s . Haircut from the 50's includes the “side part” “Rockabilly pompadour” "Messy slick back” ” flat top and "Punk" cut A.K.A fresh prince cut and also"Afro.” All these is to show how far along we’ve come in remaking/remixing of things around us, and how far we've evolved into something better and more trendy.
