I’ve noticed over time that our current millennial fashion has been a remix from the past eras. I observed that it is very similar to the fashion styles from the early 20s, 30s, all the way through to the 90s. The styles back then were very distinctive and there was less variety to choose from compared to the styles in the current era. Back in the days, some fashion styles were restricted to a specific gender. For example, In 1818 the national dress society advocated for women, who were required to wear no more than 7 pounds of underwear beneath their skirts and dresses, which was highly uncomfortable due to the weight. this did not change until late 1851 when Amelia Bloomer debuted the signature loose-fitting trousers. By 1911, pants for ladies were very popular thanks to the work of designers like Frenchman Paul Poiret.

Although fashion has evolved from the past decades, it also has been refused and mixed up to create our modern style. Fashion remixes are the latest trend, with most people, especially women, choosing a vintage, dated look, and considering it stylish. Whether it's styles like the Flapper dresses from the 20’s, the mod dresses (1958), the shoulder pads in dresses and shirts , or the pleated pants from the 80’s or the fabric used, all these have been remixed and reused in today's fashion. There also clothing websites and boutiques that only sell vintage clothing’s, websites like Modcloth or Fashion Remix Boutique. I’ve also noticed some African pattern/styles have been remade in today's fashion style. A good example is the fashions of Beyoncé and Rihanna. These two famous artists are well known not only because of their craft and musicality but also because of their fashion, especially their African inspired style. In one of Beyonce's famous Instagram pregnancy pictures (baby shower) she is dressed as an African queen with the head tie and wrap skirt coupled with the African henna tattoo on her stomach. All this shows that fashion can be remixed, remade, and reused in today's fashion trends.
